WELCOME
We would like to invite you to the Merkur Kit Museum, which can be found in the picturesque town of Police nad Metuji. The Merkur kit is inextricably linked to this city, where it has been manufactured since its inception. Furthermore, the company celebrated its 100th anniversary last year.
RECONSTRUCTION
However, a comprehensive reconstruction of the Museum’s exposition was started this year. In the ongoing first stage, the reception was renovated according to the concept of architect Zdenek Rychtarik. In the future, this modern, clean style will be used in all areas of the Museum. Also, a new exposition of Woody wooden toys has been newly opened in the Museum together with popular train tracks.
KIDS´ PARADISE
We have prepared a playroom with wooden blocks for smaller children. On the other side, older children will certainly enjoy the workshop of the Merkur kit. We are also preparing a new exhibition of mining and mining equipment in the reconstructed cellars. The Museum has a large classic Merkur track and a collection of Merkur trains for fans of the model railway.
FAMOUS PLACES AT HAND
In the Museum we can see a replica of a lens machine built from Mercury, on which Professor Wichterle cast the first hydrogel contact lenses. Another example of the fact that Mercury is not just a toy, is a robot which was built by a team of students from Litomysl. Later they won the title of world champion in robotics in the USA.
You can also find here iconic buildings such as the Tower Bridge in London, Karlstejn Castle, and the Jested transmitter. However, the biggest attraction probably remains the Steel City. It was built according to the novel by Jules Verne, by the builder Jiri Mladek.
