This Benedictine monastery is one of the most significant baroque sights in the Hradec Kralove region and also the monument of the town of Broumov. History of the monastery dates all the way back to the 13th century. The biggest growth of the monastery came after the year 1620 in the era of the Catholic reformation. The monastery was rebuilt to the baroque architecture style. Today, the monastery possesses a high baroque appearance and is a masterpiece of K. I. Dientzhofera.
The monastery offers a variety of exhibitions in which is included the visit of the unique monastery library with over 17 000 books, Church of St. Wojciech with rich decorations and the monastery’s refectory where a copy of Turin canvas is displayed. The wide basement of the monastery shelves 34 mummies in total with its origins in the Church of St. Prokop in the city of the Vamberk. Another part of the whole complex is also the beautiful monastery garden where you can relax after your tour of the place.
Between the years 2014 and 2015 The Broumov Monastery went through a huge revitalization which cost about 250 million Czech Crowns or about $11,2 million. About 20% of the monastery was repaired including its gardens and main buildings.
The Broumov Monastery also hosts many events for the public. Many traditions like the Christmas Mass or Easter markets and other events are held here. Other than the traditions there are also exhibitions, openings, lectures and there is a possibility of accommodation in the monastery.
