Explore towns full of historical landmarks in the Pardubice Region – Litomysl, Chrudim, Slatinany, Vysoke myto and Prelouc

Below are some tips on where to travel in Pardubice Region each day


Arrival and Accommodation (night before the tour)

Accommodation is provided throughout the visit in a mid-range hotel in the center of Pardubice. It offers walking distance to the city’s main landmarks and the main train station, approximately 10 minutes away. The location also allows easy access to the main program points.

 

DAY 1:


8:40 a.m.| Departure from the hotel

  • The walk takes approximately 15 minutes.

9:00-10:00 a.m.| Visit to Pardubice Castle

  • A Renaissance castle with characteristic sgraffito façades, originally built on a Gothic fortress and rebuilt in the 16th century as the residence of the Pernstejn family. Today, it houses the East Bohemian museum with rich exhibitions.

10:00-11:00 a.m.| Break in the castle grounds and Tyrsovy sady

  • Opportunity for refreshments in a peaceful setting or relaxing in Tyrsovy sady adjacent to the castle grounds.

Transfer to the square (10 minutes on foot)

11:10 a.m.-12:00 p.m. | Pernstyn square

  • The historic heart of the city with a 19th-century town hall and colorful bourgeois houses. Besides beautiful architecture, you will find memorial plaques and small shops with local products.

Transfer to the church (part of the square)

12:00-12:20 p.m. | Church of St. Bartolomej

  • A Gothic three-aisled church from the 14th century with Baroque altars and Renaissance tombstones.
  • Entrance is voluntary.

Transfer to a historic house (part of the square) 

12:20-1:00 p.m.| Dum u Jonase

  • A Baroque bourgeois house from the 18th century, known for its façade relief of Prophet Jonas and the whale. It includes a museum exhibition, which can be visited for free with a ticket to Castle Pardubice.

1:00-3:00 p.m.| Lunch at a restaurant on the square

Transfer to the mills (10 minutes on foot)

3:10-4:00 p.m.| Automatic Mills

  • A functionalist building by architect Josef Gocar from the early 20th century. The former mills have been transformed into a modern cultural center with a gallery.

4:00-4:40 p.m.| Relaxation in the mill complex

  • Option to have light refreshments at the coffee shop overlooking the river or on the terrace within the mill area.

Transfer back to the city center (15 minutes on foot)

5:00-7:00 p.m.| Dinner at a restaurant with a terrace in the city center

7:00 p.m.| Free time – exploring the evening city life

 

DAY 2:


Transfer from the hotel to the train station (10 minutes on foot)

8:00 a.m.| Departure from Pardubice to Litomysl

  • The train ride takes about 1 hour.

Transfer from the station to the castle grounds (15 minutes on foot)

9:20-9:40 a.m.| Visit to the Birthplace of Bedrich Smetana

  • The birthplace of Bedrich Smetana is a museum dedicated to the life and work of this important Czech composer. The exhibition includes musical works, documents, personal items, and photographs.

(Note: Only individual visits available. For guided tours, booking at least 14 days in advance is recommended.)

Transfer to the gardens within the castle grounds

9:40-11:40 a.m.| Visit to the French Gardens

  • Enjoy a leisurely walk through the spacious baroque garden, designed in a regular geometric style, offering beautiful views, well-kept flowerbeds, fountains, and sculptures — ideal for relaxation and photography.

Transfer to the castle (part of the grounds)

11:40 a.m.-12:30 p.m.| Visit to Litomysl Castle

  • One of the most significant Renaissance castles in the Czech Republic and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Famous for its unique decoration and rich interiors illustrating aristocratic life.

Transfer to the city center (10 minutes on foot)

12:40-3:00 p.m.| Lunch at a local restaurant in Litomysl center

Transfer to the museum (10 minutes on foot)

3:10-4:10 p.m.| Visit to Museum of Josef Vachal

  • Dedicated to the unique Czech writer, painter, and graphic artist Josef Vachal. The exhibition is located in the Portmoneum, a house with unique wall paintings created by Vachal, offering a glimpse into his world of mysticism and imagination.

Transfer to the church (5 minutes on foot)

4:20-5:10 p.m.| Visit to Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross

  • A Neo-Gothic church near the city center, featuring unique stained glass windows and a historic organ used during concerts.

Transfer to the monastery gardens (5 minutes on foot)

5:20-6:00 p.m.| Monastery Gardens

  • A relaxing walk through beautiful monastery gardens — a perfect place to rest and take photographs.

6:00 p.m.| Return from Litomysl to Pardubice

  • Train ride is approximately 1 hour.

7:10-9:00 p.m.| Dinner at a restaurant in Pardubice city center

 

DAY 3:


Transfer from the hotel to the train station (10 minutes on foot)

8:30 a.m.| Departure from Pardubice to Chrudim

  • The train ride takes about 15 minutes, followed by a 15-minute walk to the main square.

9:00-10:00 a.m.| Visit to Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary at Resselovo square

  • A Gothic church with Romanesque foundations, later modified in Neo-Gothic style. It is the main landmark of the square with a beautiful interior and a Baroque altar.

10:00-10:15 a.m.| Visit to the Plague Column of the Transfiguration of the Lord at Resselovo square

  • The plague column was erected in 1732 in gratitude for the city’s rescue from a plague epidemic. It is known for its Baroque sculptural decoration.

Transfer to the museum (5 minutes on foot)

10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.| Visit to the Regional museum in Chrudim

  • The museum features rich exhibitions focused on regional history, folk traditions, and especially a unique collection of puppets, which is part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.

12:15-2:00 p.m.| Lunch at a restaurant near the museum

Transfer to the train station (15 minutes on foot)

2:15 p.m.| Transfer from Chrudim to Slatinany

  • The train ride takes approximately 10 minutes, followed by a 20-minute walk to the chateau grounds.

3:00-3:45 p.m.| Visit to Slatinany Chateau

  • Originally a medieval fortress, Slatinany Chateau was transformed into a Renaissance and later Baroque residence. In the 19th century, it became the summer home of the noble Auersperg family.

Transfer to the stud farm, part of the chateau grounds

4:00-5:00 p.m.| Visit to Stud Farm Slatinany

  • One of the most important Czech stud farms, specializing in breeding Kladruber horses – the only horse breed in the world developed specifically for ceremonial purposes.

Transfer to the park, part of the chateau grounds

5:00-6:30 p.m.| Walk through the chateau park and visit Cat Castle

  • This miniature castle was built at the end of the 19th century by Princess Wilhelmina of Auersperg for the children of nobility and is a popular spot for photography and relaxation in a beautiful park.

6:30-9:00 p.m.| Dinner at a restaurant near the castle park

Transfer to the train station (20 minutes on foot)

9:20 p.m.| Return by train to Pardubice

  • The train ride takes approximately 30 minutes.

 

DAY 4:


Transfer from the hotel to the train station (10 minutes on foot)

08:05-09:10 a.m.| Transfer from Pardubice to Vysoke Myto

  • The train ride takes approximately 1 hour, including a transfer.

(Stop: Pardubice – Chocen – Vysoke Myto).

Transfer from the station to Vanorneho Square (5 minutes on foot)

9:20-10:30 a.m.| Visit to Church St. Vavrinec and Vanorneho square

  • The church was built on this site shortly after the city’s founding in the 1260s. In the 19th century, it was restored in the Neo-Gothic style.

Transfer to Prague Gate (5 minutes on foot)

10:40-11:30 a.m.| Visit to Prague Gate and lookout from the tower

  • Prazska brana, with its Neo-Gothic reconstruction and stunning view, represents a key historical landmark of the town. The lookout at Prague tower is open from 11:00 to 12:30.

Transfer to Litomysl gate (10 minutes on foot)

11:40 a.m.-12:30 p.m.| Visit to Litomysl Gate

  • Litomysl Gate was built as part of the city’s fortifications starting in the 13th century.

12:30-2:45 p.m.| Lunch and rest at the town brewery

3:00-3:30 p.m.| Walk around Premysl Otakar II. square

Transfer to the museum (5 minutes on foot)

3:40-4:40 p.m.| Visit to Regional museum in Vysoke Myto

  • Exhibitions focused on the history of the town and firefighting technology. Guided tours are available upon request if booked three days in advance.

4:45-5:20 p.m.| Final stroll through the town

Transfer to the train station (15 minutes on foot)

5:40-7:00 p.m.| Return to Pardubice

  • (Stop: Vysoke Myto – Chocen – Pardubice)

8:00-10:00 p.m.| Dinner at the nearby restaurant

 

DAY 5:


Transfer from the hotel to the train station (10 minutes on foot)

8:57 a.m.| Transfer from Pardubice to Prelouc

  • The train ride takes approximately 10 minutes, followed by a 10-minute walk to the town center.

9:15-10:00 a.m.| Tour of the Church St. Jakub Vetsi

  • The dominant landmark of Prelouc dates back to the mid-14th century. Originally a Gothic structure, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style in the 18th century. In addition to the main altar, visitors are captivated by the frescoes and original stone details.

Transfer to the square (5 minutes on foot)

10:05-10:35 a.m.| Masarykovo square and the Marian Column

  • The historic center of the town features original burgher houses. The Marian Column was erected in 1714 to express gratitude for protection against the plague.

Transfer to the Town Hall (5 minutes on foot)

10:40-11:10 a.m.| Town Hall and Burgher Houses

  • The Town Hall dates from the late 19th century and represents the Neo-Renaissance style. The surrounding burgher houses showcase the architectural development of the town from the Renaissance to the 20th century.

11:15-11:45 a.m.| Tour of the Remains of the Town Fortifications

  • The preserved parts of the 14th-century medieval walls recall the times when the town was protected against enemy invasions. The walls also symbolized the town’s autonomy.

Transfer to the historic cemetery (10 minutes on foot)

11:00-11:40 a.m.| Jewish Cementary

  • This cemetery, founded in the 18th century, serves as an important reminder of the once-active Jewish community in Prelouc.

12:00-2:00 p.m.| Lunch at a local restaurant

Transfer (10 minutes on foot)

2:10-2:40 p.m.| Bridge over the Elbe

  • This early 20th-century bridge is an example of technical architecture. It offers beautiful views of the river and the surrounding landscape.

Transfer to the museum (15 minutes on foot)

3:00-4:00 p.m.| Museum of Prelouc

  • Housed in a historic building, the museum presents archaeological finds, folk traditions, and the town’s history from prehistoric times to the present.

Transfer to the train station (10 minutes on foot)

4:20 p.m.| Return by train to Pardubice for accommodation

  • The train journey takes approximately 10 minutes.

6:00 p.m.| Check-out from the accommodation

6:30 p.m.| Departure to the nearest suitable airport
