NOODLES with SAUERKRAUT and BACONCzech name: Nudle se zelím a slaninou

This is another nice and simple meal for which you need a minimum of ingredients. It can be easily adapted depending on whatever you just happen to have in your pantry. Do not be afraid to experiment because this is a meal which just cannot go wrong. It does not take too long considering you need the noodles to boil and then just mix everything together. So, if you are in need of a warm and easy bowl of Czech love, then what are you waiting for? Get cooking!
1 lb egg noodles (short and extra wide)
1 small jar of sauerkraut, drained (reserve a little of the liquid for later)
4 slices of bacon – use more if you like
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste
2 tsp caraway seed
oil for frying
Bring water to a boil and add the noodles. Cook until soft according to the instructions on the package. In the meantime, chop the onion into small pieces and heat up the oil in a pan. Gently stir-fry the onion until soft, and then add the sauerkraut. Season with the salt and pepper, add the caraway seeds and a bit of water or the drained liquid for more flavor. Cover and simmer until the sauerkraut softens. In a separate pan, fry the bacon until crunchy. If the bacon is fatty, you will not need to use any oil. Drain the noodles, add the softened sauerkraut and the bacon and mix it all up. Tadaaa!
TIP: If you wish to try this recipe and you are missing some of the ingredients, do not fret. There is always a way around.
So, if you do not have:
Noodles – you can use basically any other type of pasta (farfalle, fusilli, wide egg noodles etc.)
Bacon – use Bologna or Polish sausage instead.
Onion – you can stew the sauerkraut without it.
That many pans – first fry the bacon and then add the onion, then sauerkraut, then the boiled noodles.
If you have it all and want to fine-tune your cooking mastery, you can use 2 onions. Use one together with some crushed garlic for extra flavor and add the other stir-fried onion on the top of the meal just before serving.
