This meal loves the rich, the poor, kids, and adults, but also foreigners, which order this often in the Czech Republic.

Fried cheese is the pride of Czech cuisine, but it is not exactly a Czech meal. In the Middle Ages, fried cheese existed in America, Austria, or Greece. But anywhere, they eat this meal with tartar sauce. According to available sources of information, fried cheese and the homemade tartar sauce is a purely Czech dish.

4 slices Edam, Mozzarella or Provolone cheese, about 3/4 inch thick
1 egg
1 Tbs milk
1-2 Tbs all-purpose flour
plain breadcrumbs
oil for frying

Homemade tartar sauce
1 cup mayonnaise
1 Tbs plain yogurt
2 chopped pickles
2 chopped spring onions
2 tsp chopped capers
1 tsp Worcester sauce
1 tsp yellow mustard
salt and ground black pepper to taste

Homemade tartar sauce
Mix all ingredients together, add salt and pepper to taste and place it in the refrigerator to chill.

Fried cheese
In a bowl, mix the egg with the milk. Then gradually add all-purpose flour until you have smooth pastry, similar to pancake batter. In another bowl, put plain breadcrumbs. Dip each slice of the cheese in the pastry and then dip it in the plain breadcrumbs. Repeat these steps a second time; this helps prevent the cheese from leaking during frying. After you have done this to all the slices of cheese, quickly deep fry the slices in oil on high heat until golden brown on the both sides. Set the slices of cheese on paper towels to drain. Serve immediately with homemade tartar sauce. You can add boiled potatoes with butter as a side dish. Enjoy!
